Shall we add this - Nigel Farage bid to scrap human rights law could 'accelerate end of the Union' - to the already lengthy list of things that were supposedly going to accelerate the end of the Union? None of them did, of course. But this impeccable record of failure will not be enough to stop people believing it will be different this time - just as it was going to be different all those other times.
That's the problem with such faith positions. Faith is belief against evidence. The stronger the contrary evidence, the stronger the faith. Faith positions are strengthened by the very evidence that proves them fallacious. The fact that Brexit, Boris, and the rest did not have the accelerating effect predicted is if not proof, a very powerful reason for being sceptical about the accelerating effect of Farage and his mad agenda. Believing that the Farage-effect is real is a faith position. Those who hold this position take pride in their ability to maintain their faith even in the face of the most incontrovertible evidence.
Quite simply, it is not safe to assume that Farage becoming British Prime Minister will have any positive implications for the fight to restore Scotland's independence. Maintaining that it is a safe assumption only encourages complacency. It promotes the fallacy that independence is inevitable. It emphatically is not!
Scotland's independence will not be restored by any external agency or development. It will not be restored by the EU or the UN. It certainly will not be restored by anything the British state imposes on Scotland. The only safe assumption on the basis of evidence is that the people of Scotland have an infinite capacity for tolerating the iniquities that flow from the Union.
Scotland's independence will only be restored by a process WE identify and implement here in Scotland. If WE don't do it, it doesn't get done. Stop thinking of independence as something that will be 'delivered' like an Amazon package or 'won' like a prize in a beauty contest. Think of it as something WE must go out and TAKE!
If we want our nation back, WE will have to wrest it forcefully from the jealous grasp of covetous Britannia.
Take back our government!
Take back our parliament!
Take back our nation!

"NIGEL Farage’s plan to scrap human rights protections could “accelerate the end of the Union” due to implications for the Good Friday Agreement, an expert has said" so writes Abbi Garton-Crosbie in The National when referencing the opinion of Colin Harvey, law professor at Queens University Belfast and specialist in human rights.
He talks in the context of the potential conflict with the Good Friday Agreement and the prospective impact on the chances of Irish re-unification.
His comment makes no reference at all to Scotland.
If he did have Scotland in mind I doubt Professor Harvey would be deserving of being an "expert" at all: surely given that spikes caused by Boris Johnson becoming PM and Brexit had a temporary spike only in YES sentiment in Scotland. No advantage was taken by our cowardly and treacherous political leaders so people simply adapted to the new reality - YES support fell back as these events became normalised and the people adopted an 'we are where we are' attitude.
If the UK did depart from the ECHR causing a rupture in the GFA and led ultimately to a re-unified Ireland there is no particular reason to believe that this would have a knock on effect to Scotland. Territory has always been important to the Brits - they value the living space and prestige this affords them.
But Scotland is different.
Unlike Northern Ireland, Scotland is the Brits cash cow and the rest of the UK's natural resources supplier. Having lost their remaining land in Ireland - and lost international face in the process -this will more than likely make the Brits more determined to hold on to Scotland.
The Good Friday Agreement is an international treaty. Scottish devolution is a UK internal arrangement. The two cannot be compared.
The Union with any part of the island of Ireland ending doesn't automatically mean the same for Scotland vis-à-vis England.
Every word spot on. .....
'accelerate the end of the union.....hahahahah!.look another flying pig. ( That will sh*t on Scotland once again.) Let me tell you of another 'flying pig '..I watched GB News yesterday
( keep your friends close ..and your enemies even closer..so I watch the excrement every day.) Yesterday the presenter known as foreign englishman Pierce said and I quote 'the immigrants should be dumped on a Scottish island with tents'. He thought it one of the best ideas so far. However..bad as the foreign english sh*thead was ..the worst aspect was the SCOTTISH journalist ( born in Hawick).. quisling White who sat silent beside the foreign englishman Pierce as he vomited his support for this wonderful idea. This little pratt seemed to think he and his sassenach pals can just solve problems that are annoying foreign england by dumping them on our beautiful islands and their communities. If that doesn't make you want to get oot yer chair and march tae GBNews ( wi' yer Lochaber ) then Scotland is a lost cause. Quisling White... What a traitor!...too feart tae object in case he lost his job. He just sat silent ..a perfect mushroom. And of course the foreign english watching the program would see a pathetic excuse for a Scot sat there shoulders cowed and head down.....just like the inmates of Holyrood who will also be silent....This is why I say only WAR with the parasitic entity over the border will solve our problem. What gives the foreign english the right to decide what they can do to OUR country. But the unedifying sight of quisling White sitting looking down and saying zilch gives the foreign english the reason and entitlement to go on trashing our country and nation.
Scrap human rights?..don't make me laugh..Scotland's human rights went doon the lavvy a long time ago. I'm still gnashing my teeth.....all I need now is Sturgeon to come on the radio ..making dosh out of Scotland and I will finally go round the bend. Get angry Scotland!
Your podcast exactly right as usual...
