' Speaking to the Press Association on Thursday, the First Minister said: “I intend to bring forward a motion to Parliament on Tuesday, following a statement, subject to the agreement of the parliamentary authorities, about the Government’s priorities, to give Parliament the opportunity to say what I believe it will say, because there is the largest number of independence supporting MSPs in the Scottish Parliament, that the constitutional future of Scotland should be decided by a referendum, delivered through a section 30 order involving a transfer of powers.
“So we will put that to Parliament on Tuesday, subject to the agreement of the parliamentary authorities, to enable us to have that choice.” '
"So I can confirm today that on the first sitting day after the appointment of the new government, we will bring forward a vote of the Scottish Parliament to approve the development of a Section 30 to give Scotland the power to hold an independence referendum."
specifically:
"... to approve the development of a Section 30 ..." (27th April - active)
versus:
"... delivered through a section 30 order involving a transfer of powers ..." (21st May - passive)
Whatever you think about a "Section 30", somebody needs to hold Swinney to account over what he promised before the election, to what he is doing AFTER. From the looks of it he may be weaseling out. Too many people with their own agendas - so Swinney escapes? Only Greer at the moment has any balls ...
So what is it John Boy? The Scottish Parliament to develop a Section 30 - or some sort of pathetic begging of Westminster to do it? There IS a big difference.
Unfortunately nobody hauled up Swinney btl on the National article, for backsliding on hi own recorded words. People are too interested in pushing their own related but not relevant point of view.
This is how politicians escape - they should be held responsible FOR THEIR OWN WORDS, not what people think they should have said or done.
"... calls on the UK Government to make a Section 30 order under the Scotland Act 1998 to devolve the powers to the Scottish Parliament to hold a referendum on Scottish independence ..."
which is NOT the same as:
"... we will bring forward a vote of the Scottish Parliament to approve the development of a Section 30 to give Scotland the power to hold an independence referendum."
Is there anyone with any influence going to make a fuss about this, or is Swinney going to be able to get away with it because everyone is off on their own crusade?
"calls on the UK Government" = and is totally equivalent to "now is not the time".
And another one bites the dust.
Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you
When you change with ev'ry new day
Still I'm gonna miss you
So much for Brave Caledonia, the chief of her line. She'll just have to wait. As always.
By completely blowing the doors off of ye hoary old constitutional-dungeon and releasing its ancient prisoners to the light-of-day and public scrutiny, will be a supremely disruptive act on the road to national liberation.
Excellent! The real battle for Scotland's freedom finally begins...
[Personally I now accept Scotland is independent as the Scottish people jammed Holyrood full of pro independence parties. The people have spoken and the people are SOVEREIGN.Any crappy rules by the foreign english disregarded.]
As I read your excellent diatribe a few suggestions came to mind for you to consider on the format of the website.
1. Would it be possible to link it with the National....the Scotland Channel ...or any pro independence based group who could be invited to report on subjects of importance to the Scots ...(The bigger the army the better.)
2. How about a section dedicated to reporting on lies ..myths reported by our enemies..and name them. eg.
* the failing Scottish NHS by Baillie
3. A section reporting on the failings of the UK goverment
* privatisation disaster of their water
* extremism in england
4. Cover ups in Scotland by the UK Government.
* Radiation leak in Faslane ..UK government refuse to give info
* Grangemouth closed ..even tho we produce oil but have no refinery now unlike Wales who have one but no oil.
*Is there a SCORCHED EARTH POLICY operating in Scotland by the UK Government.
The point of all this is INFORMATION to the Scots...the lifeblood of a nation..
We need to gather an army dedicated to our nation and its freedom.
I take on board all of these suggestions, Catherine. But my first priority is to keep the party focused on the constitutional issue. It's so easy to let other matters creep in. And that would be fatal.

Backsliding?

As predicted. How many second chances does this guy get?
As many as it takes. Unless or until someone takes his place as the Last Jedi!

This is on Tuesday - 5 DAYS from now - and could set the tone for the next 5 YEARS.
If he is allowed to wriggle off the hook and worm his way away ...
... to which he should be told ... "Go fish!".
