Home now
I have deactivated my WordPress.com blogsite - keeping it as an archive - and from today will be giving all my attention to my Substack site. Posting everything to two sites was getting to be a bit of a chore. And it was eating up a fair bit of my time. a choice had to be made, and it couldn’t be put off any longer. In the end, I decided that this place should be my new home.
My focus will remain Scottish politics, and particularly the constitutional issue. I intend to write on other topics as well. But I’ve been nursing that intention for a very long time and so far, not much has transpired. That will change when making up excuses for not doing it becomes more onerous that doing it.
I have no great interest in monetising my work. Nor do I concern myself overmuch about views, clicks, likes, and other such stuff. I hope never to find myself hesitating to say something because it might negatively impact my stats. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, responded to the threatened release of some saucy material relating to his extra-marital affairs saying, “Publish and be damned!”. Due to lack of pretty much everything required, I have no extra-marital affairs. But I wholeheartedly embrace the sentiment.
Contrary to the tenets of what I’m confident is a temporary glitch in our cultural evolution, there is no such thing as a ‘right’ to live a life free of offence taken and no legitimate obligation to live a life devoid of offence given. I am glad of the capacity to be offended and while I find offensiveness for its own sake tiresome, I shall not shirk my civic duty to offend those who are likely to be wounded by truth and reasoned argument. “Fuckem!” Which is what His Grace the Duke probably said.
This is my blogging home now. You’re welcome to it!

There are few greater pleasures in this old life these days, than offending arrogant and unlearned "yoons" who consider themselves to be beyond offence. Keep up the good work amigo :)
More time to offend folk..sensible.
For OUR Scotland and her weans.
