Regular readers of this blog who also delve into the comments (as you bloody well should, because there’s a lot of good stuff in there) may be aware that I have lately been talking about my totally unscientific gauging of the mood in the independence movement involving responses to my comments below-theline (BLT) on The National’s website.
The first failure of the SNP under Sturgeon was when she was on her grand tour in Edinburgh, I stayed in England at the time and traveled up to Scotland to listen to what was next stage in restoring Scotland rightful place as a nation. A schoolboy stood up and asked her "when would be
having another referendum" it was the question everyone wanted answering, her reply was we had one we lost it wouldn't be fair on the over side if we had another. So what is Sturgeon saying here because it just didn't seem to translate to the people in the hall who wanted Independence because both me and why wife traveled all the way back to England talking about what she had said and questioned why she made a statement of stopping progress rather than making progress.
The second failure of the SNP under Sturgeon, should have been a warning sign of what was to come, but not many took notice. It was in 2015 when the SNP was looking to win a Westminster election the party paid for billboards right across Scotland saying "Lets Make Westminster Work For Scotland" both me and my wife left the SNP that year.
How the SNP has conned the Scots, they tell us its Westminster who denying democracy then on election night tell us to vote for the SNP because its only the SNP who can guarantee 100% on a referendum but its the SNP who's gave England the power on the constitutional question.
The SNP is destroying its self and yet the people who support the SNP and run the SNP are so blinded to what lies ahead.
Its simple, if Scotland is in a voluntary union or is free to leave when ever it wants but the process setup up by Westminster (Section 30 order) isn't allowing that process to proceed then UDI is in my opinion the only option.
I have to ask the simple question what does the SNP stand for? Because they don't stand up for the Scotland or its institution its people or our industry's.
I am applaud that the SNP stole the Independence referendum rufund and its been brushed under the carpet with no interest apart from Wings.
All these items I've mentioned are worrying and yet the National still parades Sturgeon as if she still running Scotland.
I got a free years membership to the national and the next day after Salmond was found innocent the national posted a letter or letters from these accusers. I was angry at that, on that very day I contacted the national and cancelled my free years subscription and have never bought their paper since.
The some of articles written in the national by these so called journalist and then people comment on these articles leave anyone who wants Independence thinking have you not just read what I've read and why aren't we all on the same path.
I honestly believe true Indy supporters who actually want Independence are constantly be duped by FAKE Indy supporters to support the SNP and to buy this Rag of a news paper to constantly keep us divided.
I have no idea how anyone who wants Independence can stand and read what been written on these comment in the National articles, the comments are to say the least written my idiots or they are designed to engage us to aggressive debate because no one can be so stupid to whats happening in politics in Scotland to say the things that's being said.
For me the most important country's in the world to recognize Scotland as a Independent country again is Russia, China and the USA and the rest will follow. Why people believe that Europe (colonizers) themselves will help Scotland is for the birds these country have a lot to lose in assets themselves if Scotland becomes Independent, so we shouldn't expect their governments to help.
People go on about Trump and I keep trying to make the point Trump love chaos he's annoyed with the Britain and here is our opportunity If there is one thing trump loves it to make money and who would I rather deal with regards to the north sea England or Trump and if we wanted to declare Independence this is our opportunity to get USA backing and he'd love it and the benefit to Scotland is freedom, so shouldn't just dismiss Trump because we don't like him theirs more at stake then likes and dislikes.
John Swinney holds more cards than he's knows, could you image if Swinney went to America and asked Trump directly if he would support UDI, the UKG would be in a panic. But Swinney is no leader and the SNP is no Indy party and this is our problem but Scotland does hold more cards then some would have us believe.
We need to call out the FAKE Indy scroungers and bypass their opinions.
I'm sorry about my written I have to read what I've written umpteen times I believe I must be dyslexic.
I was with you there up until the bit where you started talking about the USA and Trump.
The American empire carries on doing what it does regardless of who is the figurehead in the spotlight in the Whitehouse.
We are entering into a new multipolar world and our recognition by the other countries of the world will be gained at the United Nations, and will not be be 'given' to us.
Our recognition must be won and the American empire is already dead set against that, for a variety of reasons.
If you are unfamiliar with this sort of reasoning then I would recommend that you spend some time listening to the realistic analysis of professor Jeffrey Sachs.
Nations are motivated to act by evaluating what is in their own self interest.
It is in our self interest to cultivate relationships with the ex-colonial countries and the oppressed nations of the 'Global South' and the unaligned nations group.
We are going to need them to vote to recognise us.
Fortunately England is despised around the world for its centuries of arrogance and exploitation.
As to the other P5 permanent members, Russia and China will see it as in their state interest to vote to recognise Scotland as this will cause the UK to break up, and they will be unable to maintain their veto position on the Security Council.
The USA is implacably opposed to this new world order which would disrupting the existing world order.
Imagine if John Swinney had the bottle to go and speak to Trump as you suggest.
Trump would lie sincerely to his face saying that he has always loved Scotland.
Then he would be laughing at his back.
A fool easy to manipulate by lying to him.
The American Empire is thrashing around desperate to maintain its loosening grip on the unipolar world order where it used to be the sole superpower and Global Hegemon.
They are implacably and irrevocably opposed to the change that we seek.
Excellent and well balanced comment as ever Peter.....but here I come bringing my homicidal slant to the party...
My eye was caught with one word you used...idiocy.
When I'm in Tesco( foreign english supermarket) I sniff the air and aye there it is again
..the whiff of idiocy that permeates our country...and environs. I watch as the bedazzled Scots lift the foreign hostile media that informs ( brainwashes) them that:
*england supports Scotland them cos we are too wee..too stupit...etc...( ye ken the rest)
*Scots are turds and a boil that needs constant lancing( reform politician)
*Scots know zilch about what is happening in their land( america taking off from OUR land and attacking Iran( even the SNP didn't know)I use the term 'our land'..huge tracts owned by foreigners...Polveson the foreign Dane being the largest. ( doesn't pay tax to us....but to his homeland)
*the foreign english cricket scores....yawn...
*Suggestions from GBNews( foreign english news station) that 'boat people' should be dumped on Scottish Islands'....beside the Scottish peasants no doubt.( I witnessed that comment)
I could go on ..but as the late Robert Jay Lifton (MD and American psychiatrist ) said of people in our position...(an occupied country subjected to political violence)...
..we have 'ADAPTED to a 'malignant normality.' ( for 300years)..or even a 'manipulated conspiracism' (non stop lies)..that we believe...via the foreign english media that we pick up in Tesco....and that brings us back to the beginning..the whiff of idiocy.
However Lifton didn't live in Brigadoon and I would love to have asked him if at some point would the Scots have to kick ass...occupying foreign english ass.
So Peter how do we get rid of this idiocy that keeps us voting for the SNP..a tumour in our country... that goes along with 'manipulated conspiracies' until our very DNA ( Do Nothing At all) is awash with it.
As other nations who have wrenched the occupying parasitic foreign english out of their country say..'When dealing with the english ..keep a bigs stick at your back.' And I would add..be prepared to use it...
Our medieval ancestors knew this. Words are not enough.
As long as the sound of that penny dropping resonates with the Scottish people..and yes agree.....'imposition of the Scottish people's will...' spot on.
Is this not also a change of mind, reflecting a better understanding of our colonial reality, i.e. 'a people' subject to force?
"ALMOST half of Scots would back the Scottish Government declaring independence without a referendum or Westminster's permission, The National can reveal."
Only half! Where are the rest? The National should have used a wee bit of 'manipulated conspiracism 'and said 99%..the foreign english would have believed them...as they live in fear of the 'Jocks' ( or turds if ye like) getting too big for their boots. Boots that should be aimed in one particular direction..accurately one would hope....
It certainly indicates a remarkable shift in the way people are thinking about the constitutional issue. I haven't fully got to grips with it yet. But this feels to me like a corner being turned. We are now walking in sunshine.
I totally agree with your assesment of our problem UDI is lawful under International Law but the uk will block its implimentation claiming the moral high ground we Must claim that ground !
A music video telling there is a place to SALVO promoting a Greater understanding and information on Scotlands History on the claim of right
See youtube video from The Shady River Bard - Thunder in the Wires
We are no longer play by their rules !
We need this to get the word out the young need information source on this fake union !
The message is “ Stand Up For Your/Our Rights “ ( Claim of Rights)
Nicola Sturgeon and those who have succeeded her regarded legal challenges on th road to independence as things to be avoided at all costs. The news thinking sees legal challenges as things that must be faced and overcome.
The #Scottish UDI process involves 3 democratic votes:
One (by the people) in a Scottish election for parties/candidates standing on a prospectus offering a self-determining referendum, one by the Scottish Parliament proposing (and passing) a bill for Independence following that (successful) election and finally a national referendum ratifying that Act by the Scottish Parliament.
Should they attempt to block the will of the Scottish people Westminster will only be able to occupy the moral low ground.
More importantly they will be operating outside of international law.
This is why we call it #ScottishUDI. because it isn't just UDI as people tend to think of it. It is an impeccably democratic route to independence via a series of democratic votes. People tend to dismiss UDI without thinking. #ScottishUD should make them think. and sometimes it does.
I certainly agree that currently "there is no politician or party in Scotland that is telling you the truth about Scotland’s constitutional situation," but what we can do about it isn't clear, not to me at least.
"Our politicians don’t do bold."
That is certainly true. Although I suspect there are reasons, possibly reasons which have been ingrained in our politics over decades.
What we can do about it IS clear. The independence movement must combine around a single purpose. The #ScottishUDI strategy provides that purpose. It is non-party-political, so that's the main obstacle out of the way.
I couldn't agree more with your comment about things that have been "ingrained" in our politics for decades. There is no politician on the scene at the moment who is able and willing to separate from these "ingrained" ideas and modes of thinking and forge their own path.
The first failure of the SNP under Sturgeon was when she was on her grand tour in Edinburgh, I stayed in England at the time and traveled up to Scotland to listen to what was next stage in restoring Scotland rightful place as a nation. A schoolboy stood up and asked her "when would be

For OUR Scotland and her manipulated weans.
Where would we be without your "homicidal slant"? It adds some spice. Sometimes, it makes you think.
We are starting here and now!
Refuse to be a “Jock in his BOX”!
We played by Westminsters rules for over 319 no more…….
We will “Stand up for ALL our Rights”
Make life MORE interesting for westminster……… we could make life a lot hotter for them .
if we put our minds together who knows what ideas will come up with……!
Westminster don't give a flying f*ck what we think..neither does the SNP.
Study the 'Irish Way'..spoiler alert..it worked.
Excellent wee comment by you to waken up the Scots.
For OUR Scotland and her dozing weans.
Northern Ireland suggests to me that it didn't work. They were busy killing each other when I worked there.
You survived jimmy.
For OUR Scotland and her weans.
I also survived working trips and holidays in Dublin and Donegal but anyone suggesting Irish independence to Scots is clearly having a laugh 😅
That's encouraging.
Is the penny finally dropping that 'UDI' is not the imposition of politicians' will on the people but the imposition of the (Scottish) people's will?
As long as the sound of that penny dropping resonates with the Scottish people..and yes agree.....'imposition of the Scottish people's will...' spot on.
