All eyes will be on the The Event Complex Aberdeen at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon as the 91st Annual National Conference of the Scottish National Party gathers to debate the scheme for restoring Scotland’s independence which will supposedly be the main plank of their strategy in the 2026 Scottish general election.
Meanwhile, and quite relevant to the legislative competency of the Scottish Parliament to legislate on matters thought to be reserved to the UK Parliament, if successful, is this:
'CAMPAIGNERS have launched a bid to overturn the ban on Palestine Action through the Scottish courts – a move they have said could trigger a "constitutional crisis".'
"but is in fact about submitting yet another request for a Section 30 order"
No it isn't. It's about and I quote: "the people of Scotland must now insist that their democratic wishes and Scotland’s right to self-determination, are respected." which is far bigger than a mere Section 30 Order which is a small part of the repressive Scotland Act with its "you can't do this" Sections and Schedules.
Secondly, from Amendment A of the agenda: "List Votes". This is a daft idea. The electorate as a whole aren't going to suddenly endorse some esoteric politically activist notion of how to vote - exactly the same as they'd never endorse SNP 1, Greens / Alba / Indy 2.
For Newington: "they will bring forward a bill to assume responsibility for constitutional affairs as directed by the people of Scotland" (which wouldn't theoretically be within legislative competence as per a previous thread) which could include similar to this in the first section:
Anyways, let's hope this conference isn't a meek submissive pathetic "oooh you're so wonderful", but a real steamie of hotly pursued debate - and something with balls not whimpers. The Scottish Parliament with its 7th General Election, has already evolved far beyond the Scotland Act which binds and restricts it in contradiction to our sovereign right to self-determination.
If some people don't get evicted they're not trying hard enough.
You are right Peter...and more so is the abandoned Newington motion.
It only takes an elected majority on Parliament to aggregate power to itself and use that power....and see what the English do! They will have to do something and whatever it is it will be confrontational.... independence will become real to Scots if the army is at the doors of Holyrood...
The motion and amendments are all designed to prevent confrontation, and you can't win a war without having battles. The Irish found this out... We are in the process of finding it out. With our appeal to the United Nations concurrent with the 2026 general election such a radical move by the Scottish Parliament would make sure the taking of such power would be internationally significant and not able to be ignored by Westminster.
If they succeed in shutting down Hollywood surely that reinforces a whole point of the SNP and independence. And a cleaner more focused independence movement wood evolve....
Damn! I was in the middle or writing a reply to you. Had to step away from the machine to take a call. Came back, clicked on the wrong bit of the screen, and the whole comment vanished. I really must get on to Substack support about this issue.
Anyway! 3-drink rule is about to kick in. So, fuck it!
We - the members of the Ma Hoose Branch of the Independence Caledonian Pine - instruct Conference to ( 1 ) locate the collective spine ( 2 ) having satisfactorily done so ( 3 ) use that essential/versatile component of human anatomy to stand upright and ( 4 ) " unleash hell " on the pitiful assembly of prevaricating Brit State supplicants that impersonate a leadership of the ( former ) Party of Independence.
Failing that.......fuck off home and stop wasting our time pretending you are anything other than useless faux-Nationalists lacking the gumption to DEMAND better from your * leaders *
Well said Pete. I read that last paragraph three times and just feel utter sadness and a great deal of anger that this is yet another opportunity missed. The fact that the current SNP administration are circumventing resolutions like this in favour of those which involve pleading with Englandshire for another Section 30 is a dereliction of duty, and it will invariably lead to further losses in party membership, with mine being one of them. Holyrood 2026 will not be an election for many of us, it will quite simply be a damage limitation exercise for the next five years. Rock, true independence loyalists, hard place, springs to mind.
I felt your pain..so two suggestions tae cheer ye up Peter.
1. Start building Madame La Guillotine ootside Holyrood...a wee reminder tae the pathetic b*ggers inside that the people are sovereign and might decide to take action when they realise the gemme's a bogey...and as for 'the main plank' of the SNP strategy it jist might mean they walk the plank.....
2. Use unionists esp Scottish anes, traitors, quislings white trash frae doon south , them that vote for foreign english political parties and any other morons standing in the way of oor freedom for sacrifices..no wee animals hurt in the making of oor independence...
For OUR Scotland and her disappointed weans...again...and again..and again....
A lot of freemasons commenting on this .
Only traitors are still voting for SNP

Good timing for the SNP Conference. We may soon learn - are they a Butt or a Parnell of the IPP, or might they even aspire to be a De Valera?

"Schedule 1" for instance this:
Reference Extent of repeal
Scotland Act 1998 The whole Act.
